Stress Positions intelligently uses the trappings of hardcore punk to address sexuality, finding freedom from religious oppression, guilt, and shame, and the resulting auditory assault is an apt reflection of the world around us. Early 2025 is set to welcome the highly anticipated sophomore release from the Rishis. The Athens, Georgia-based outfit is centered around the songwriting duo of Sofie Lute and Ranjan Avasthi, and has now expanded to a full band with a rotating cast of musicians playing psychedelic folk rock with tinges of world music to add coloring to the mandala.

Lute and Avasthi have been writing songs together for over a decade now, with their debut album, August Moon, being released in 2022 on the Elephant 6 Recording Company label of Cloud Recordings. In addition to the duo, the Rishis regularly feature a variety of artists, including members of Neutral Milk Hotel, the Apples in Stereo, the Olivia Tremor Control, Elf Power, and the Primordial Void collective. Other guest musicians on their new self-titled LP include Mac McCaughan (founder of Merge Records), Robert Schneider (producer of the Elephant 6 Recording Company), co-producer Chris Byron, and Colin Willard & Gregg White of Shang-Ri La Studios in Malibu, California. The Rishis’ newest effort, out February 21st on vinyl and digital formats, picks up where August Moon left off, propelling us forward to explore the inner workings of the collective consciousness.

100 WATT HORSE - the evolving songwriting project of George Pettis, originally forming in Atlanta, GA around 2012 and later moving to Olympia, WA, Nashville, TN, and Limerick, Ireland. Initially a solo endeavor that involved rotating Atlanta-area musicians, it later matured into a more collaborative effort, particularly with producer and engineer Graham Tavel on releases like the 2024 EP Okey Donkey.
The band creates a lo-fi, experimental folk-pop sound, exploring themes of friendship, love, loss, and grief with a blend of acoustic and electronic elements, all while maintaining a distinctly heartfelt and soulful quality.

 - Wagging is Alison, Mark & Emily: three friends making harmony-driven, primitive pop in Asheville, NC

 - Real Companion is the music made by songwriter Seth Sullivan and multi-instrumentalist, producer and artist Derek Wycoff. Derek and Seth live and work in Boone, NC with their families. They spend their days discussing why it is better to play a high tempo style of offense on the basketball court and the merits of the early 90s Bruce Springsteen albums.

 - ATL - Rowan Newby writes heartfelt ear worms for the sentimentally inclined. Spending most of his teens and 20s developing his craft in the underground, his bedroom and copious nature trails along the East coast, Rowan ended up playing in weirdo indie folk and conceptual punk outfits. He emerges now after a long hiatus of soft releases and personal growth following his 2015 digital only release of his EP "Odes". His latest singles "Once You've Been Lonely", "Hurry Up and Wait", “This Way to Tinseltown” (and subsequent coming LP) continue the tradition of classic Americana and 60s/70s inspired songwriting with a particularly poetic and simultaneously humorous edge to the lyricism.

Reading his bio, it would seem that indie-rock singer-songwriter Gus Englehorn has lived quite transient life as he spent much of his life as a professional snowboarder but always dreamed of writing songs. Accompanied by his wife Estée Preda, his key collaborator with whom he produces his albums and creates music videos.

His new album `The Hornbook`, transmutes the entire history of 20th-century rock ‘n’ roll, ’50s golden oldies, ’60s garage spunk, ’70s glam flamboyance, ’80s indie transgression, ’90s lo-fi weirdness into an alien transmission from the future. A hornbook is an early-education tool for children dating back to the 15th century, a wooden paddle inscribed with the alphabet, numbers, and the odd Bible verse. “When I was writing these songs, it felt like I was making a children’s book—every song was a little story,” Englehorn says of the title concept. “But it also felt like a little bit of a cipher for our whole world.”

FLOATING ACTION is a band from Black Mountain, North Carolina, founded by Seth Kauffman. Kauffman is the band's sole lyricist, songwriter, recorder and producer, in addition to playing almost all the music. Kauffman has been called "the underappreciated genius of the Asheville music scene", and has been compared to Harry Nilsson. 

Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Kauffman's frequent collaborator, called him "the most underrated person in music". He has also been praised by the Black Keys, Zach Miller of Dr. Dog, and Jonah Hill.

Formed in February 2023 by cousins Jeff and Jaye Moore, Glimmer is a Brooklyn / Hudson Valley-based grungegaze band that pairs layers of heavy guitars with dreamy, swirling reverb. The band came together at warp speed: after taking a nearly two-year hiatus from music and then releasing the self-recorded home demo ‘Breathe’ under the name Glimmer, Jeff realized that writing and playing music was crucial to his mental health and was ready to put a new band together. 

In only eight weeks’ time, Glimmer was a fully functioning four-piece, with Jaye on drums, additional guitarist Johnny Nicholls, and bassist Kevin Dobbins. They played their first show after only six short practices together, but their instant chemistry and explosive on-stage energy was palpable. Their debut single “Self Destroyed” was recorded the following week.

's life has been in perpetual motion, spending nearly half of that time on the road performing her own music and as a touring bassist with Greg Freeman, Lutalo, and Liz Cooper. While she thrives in transit, back home she is anchored by "Trash Mountain," a pink house surrounded by other artists and creatives situated on a decommissioned landfill site at the back of Burlington's Old North End.

Here, Seabird has found belonging, friendship, and inspiration. It's a place that hosts artists, puts on shows, and has been passed along in her friend group for the better part of the decade. It's a symbol of transition and stability: something always evolving and growing but never losing its soul. It's only fitting that Seabird named her new album Trash Mountain, as it also contains its namesake's qualities. Over nine delicate but sturdy tracks of intimate folk rock, she pares her songwriting down to its most resonant essentials. It's an album of unwelcome exits and uncertain futures, but there's resiliency and hope at its core. It is Seabird's most confident and immediate effort to date.

 is a modern-day musical wanderer. After living in NYC for fourteen years, he can now be found chasing music and creativity all over the world.

For much of his career, he has been identified as a saxophonist who also specializes in flutes, clarinets, and keyboards. Over the years, he has added composer and producer to his musical identity, exploring recording and production to find an ever-evolving, unique, and personal sound.

Chris has been a member/composer of the band Snarky Puppy since 2005. With this genre-bending ensemble, he has received five Grammy Awards and frequently travels to perform at major concert halls and music festivals around the globe.

Chris’s musical journey started as a child when he discovered the Beach Boys, hip-hop, and four-track cassette recorders. This journey has led him to perform and record with a variety of artists, including David Crosby, Michael McDonald, Lalah Hathaway, The Los Angeles Philharmonic, Charlie Hunter, Chris Thile, Robertinho Silva, Metropole Orkest, Phish, and Soulive.

 is a producer and violinist based in Athens, Georgia.
After graduating from the University of Georgia, Leeth moved to Atlanta to learn from producer Ben H. Allen (Animal Collective, Deerhunter) as his assistant engineer and studio manager. She is now working as an engineer and violinist at Chase Park Transduction in Athens as well as a touring keyboardist and violinist for Faye Webster. She enjoys producing, recording, and playing on any project with a sound that interests her.

 is a four-piece indie rock outfit from Columbia, South Carolina. Originally a bedroom recording project, the group has developed its energetic live sound through years of touring the Southeast.

Fans are drawn to the band for their playful stage presence, infectious riffs, and genuine chemistry. A sense of adventure and self-discovery rings out from each song, lasting long after the band is done playing.

The band has garnered attention from local music lovers and news outlets alike, with the Charleston City Paper naming Homemade Haircuts “one of the clear-cut up-and-coming bands to watch in the Carolinas.”

BRNDA is a four-piece from DC with a few rules: No covers, No love songs. Simple enough, right? Think again. After perusing through the late 70s, 80s, and 2010s for musical detritus, it was discovered that only the least ostentatious, most off-kilter sound is fit for BRNDA. And so, if you find yourself unable to put your finger on just what you’re hearing, it is because BRNDA is not just some rehashed comfort listening.

Since their genesis in 2012, BRNDA has released 3 albums (2014, 2015, 2021) and an EP (2018). One could say that the stream of consciousness featured in 2021's Do You Like Salt? (on Crafted Sounds) is arguably BRNDA’s richest yet.

Above all, BRNDA pulls off an unpredictable and incredibly entertaining sound that can shift between testy art punk, noisy no wave, and groovin’ indie rock at any given moment. Not to mention, there is also a tasteful dusting of saxophone on the record. What is there not to like about all of that in a 10-track, sub-thirty-minute package?

Cor de Lux grew out of the music scene of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. The band found each other during a chance conversation about the love of music between Tim Lusk and Dawn Moraga while Moraga waited for a phone repair in Lusk’s shop. This was the catalyst for the band’s formation, their music: a mixture of post-punk, garage rock and early 2000’s influences.

Sonic Chambers Quartet is a new formation co-led by New Orleans-based clarinetist and saxophonist Byron Asher and New York City-based saxophonist and clarinetist Tomas Majcherski. The multi-instrumentalists and composers have known each other and performed together for over 10 years, primarily in the New Orleans music scene, though their collaboration on this project began in 2023. 

In addition to their shared experiences as musicians, their friendship is deepened by strikingly similar life paths prior to meeting – including past work in avant garde theater and formal studies in philosophy and religion. Their music is richly informed by these experiences, grounding their collaboration in dialogues around improvisation and composition, performance, art and collectivity.

Mindtonic / Jay Sanders - Jay Sanders is a guitarist, bassist, composer, producer, and bandleader based in Asheville, N.C. An avid musical explorer with an insatiably curious mind, his music seamlessly fuses jazz, rock, blues, metal, and African influences with years of improvisational study. His compositions range from structured thematic works and soulful grooves to Americana reflections, global soundscapes, and experimental improvisations.

Thom Nguyên is an Asheville, North Carolina-based improviser and drummer of MANAS and more. Producing energetic bursts and invoking a sensitivity to space that one often associates with Free-Jazz and New Music percussion, Nguyen’s approach elegantly bridges works of sonic sculpture with a punk aesthetic of immediacy, aggression, and playfulness.

Born within Philadelphia’s expansive music scene, the band fuses dynamic and fast-paced punk tunes with emotionally charged lyrics, inspiring fans to search their hearts while sweating it out on the dance floor. The five-piece outfit has captured the raw emotion and electricity of their on-stage performances in their debut album, It Takes Guts!, which is set to be released via Born Loser Records on October 10, 2025.

It Takes Guts! holds joy and suffering in the same breath. The album explores themes of addiction, sexual liberation, and self-worth, offering an authentic reflection of lead singer Shane Morgan’s lived experience as a transmasculine person. Despite its heavier themes, It Takes Guts! playfully embraces the ironies of life and the undeniable catharsis that comes from choosing to be sexy or sleazy when the mood strikes. The instrumentation of the record mirrors its lyrical duality, stitching together jagged punk riffs and new-wave danceability. It’s music that invites both movement and introspection, with each track built to hit home and blow out your speakers.

In San Antonio de Padua, Buenos Aires, Argentina, a six-year-old boy picks up an electric guitar for the first time. He feels the sharp steel strings and smells the wood while playing his first chords. This moment sparks a lifelong passion for music.


Raised in an inner-city environment, his childhood was half on the streets and half playing music with friends. At an early age he started experimenting with drugs and also playing in local bands. Soon, drugs became a problem and he started feeling a lack of motivation and self esteem. He eventually leaves his hometown for New York City at the suggestion of his sister, in an intent to save him from a deep depression.


In Rockaway Beach, Queens, Juan Zaballa becomes Tall Juan and begins his music career with the support of his New York friends, releasing albums that reflect his personal growth and experiences. His first album, 'Olden Goldies', reflects his English language learning journey and pays homage to his early punk music influences, showcasing his simplistic yet powerful songwriting while 'Atlantico' reconnects him with South American rhythms, displaying his musical growth.


His latest release, 'Raccoon Nights', showcases his evolution as a musician and producer, exploring psychedelic-pop with a blend of synthesizers and new wave overtones. Throughout his music, Tall Juan expresses his emotions and experiences, evolving his sound while maintaining his authentic voice inviting a diverse group of collaborators to join him on his journey.

Lee frequently guest lectures on building a personal language and creative agency at undergraduate and graduate-level composition programs including Princeton University, Stanford, and the New School. Lee serves on the Artistic Advisory Council at ISSUE Project Room and co-runs a record label with Randall Dunn, Kou Records, dedicated to artists who have developed singular musical languages.

 formed in New Jersey in 2017, and after releasing two self-recorded demo collections, they released their first studio album, Sun Into Flies, in 2020, followed by Perfect Gray in 2021. Now based in Brooklyn and Philadelphia, the duo of multi-instrumentalist brothers Nick and Shane Sullivan are constantly evolving their sound. Their latest album, Night Songs, examines the allure of night and its ability to shapeshift from a mirror for our innermost demons to a shield from the demands of daily drudgery. It marks a departure from their hushed slowcore beginnings and displays a more expansive sound—from blowtorched shoegaze guitars and poppier vocals to melancholy synths and pastoral lap steel. Fittingly, their detour into twistier, heavier territory coincides with the depraved nature of nighttime activities, and their foray into a more hi-fi, pop-forward direction aligns with the stark clarity that pitch-black skies provide. Their devilish distortion also functions as a cathartic foil to their quiet, real-life demeanors, and was informed by their live shows, which increasingly featured gnarlier versions of past Joyer songs. Following the success of Night Songs the band has embarked on various country-wide tours, sharing bills with other up-and-coming acts as well as prominent indie rock artists such as Wishy, Feeble Little Horse, Horse Jumper of Love, Lowertown, and Babehoven.

Coral Grief is the Seattle-based dream pop project of Lena Farr-Morrissey (vocals, bass, synth) Sam Fason (guitar, synth) and Cam Hancock (drums). Rich guitars, glowing synths, driving bass, and ethereal vocals swirl around skeletal drum beats to create a textured, intricate sound that is experimental, playful, and catchy.

The band first emerged onto the Seattle scene with thier self-titled EP, released by Seattle tape label 

 in May 2021. Recorded entirely by Farr-Morrissey and Fason in 2020, the the six tracks contrast themes of isolation and stagnation over propulsive drum machine loops and swirling, lush compositions. The band's sophomore release 

, released February 24, 2023, expands on the trio’s strengths, with more energetic contrasts and vibrant production. Full of double meanings, these songs revolve around feelings of personal and collective stagnation, while also exploring treasure maps amidst the times of disorder and desperation. Coral Grief toured extensively through the western US, including festival dates at Treefort Music Fest, Capitol Hill Block Party and South by Southwest. The trio has played some of Seattle’s most iconic venues, opening for acclaimed artists like Indigo de Souza, Chastity Belt, and Luna. Cash Langdon - Birmingham, AL - cosmic / folk / indie rock

Birmingham indie rocker Cash Langdon has two records to his name, but the most recent, Dogs, is the first where he is joined by his band Meadow Dust (bassist Matt Whitson and drummer Reagan Bruce). Their fuzzy take on heavy country rock recalls Neil Young & Crazy Horse and gives off the heat of Langdon’s native Birmingham. Like Young, his voice is simultaneously earnest and world-weary, but there’s a sense of humor too, and a resignation to keeping on. The songs are beautiful, searing, southern-gothic testaments to the ongoing violence of being awake to the world around you and the resolve to stay awake anyway.
