 is a rock and roll band. Like any good rock and roll band, Dauber is rough around the edges, but bursting with vibrant, uninhibited energy. Formed in Hudson, NY by former Screaming Females bassist Mike Abbate alongside Quinn Murphy and Jenna Fairey, this poppy trio combines loud distortion, raw spirit, and infectious melodies in a way that feels primal yet carefully constructed.

Dauber is like a crude painter, daubing blobs of paint on canvas in a messy yet deliberate burst of creation. Their debut album, Falling Down, doesn’t shy away from its rawness. It’s a celebration of imperfection. Recorded in collaboration with the ever-adventurous John Hoffman (Vacation, BEEF, The Mimes), the album’s production captures the grit and energy of a new band finding their sound. From the ear-splitting opening chords of the title track “Falling Down” to the lamenting last chorus of the final track “Memory Lane,” Dauber delivers a strong debut album full of exuberant hooks, crunchy guitars, pounding drums, and a healthy dose of chaos for all the rock and roll freaks of the world. Pacific Northwest and Los Angeles-based group LAKE has been an indie rock institution since their formation in 2005, bringing endlessly curious musical exploration to their distinctive brand of soft rock.

Today, the trio of multi-instrumentalists Ashley Eriksson, Eli Moore, and Andrew Dorsett continue a singular path with their most recent LP Roundelay on Seattle label OFF TEMPO, adding Balkan and British folk rock influences, odd time signatures, and adult contemporary aesthetic to their already singular sound: whispered lead vocals, gentle romanticism and sly funk.

It was fellow Northwest recording artist Karl Blau (now Philadelphia-based) who became the band's first producer and champion through his subscription-based underground music series KELP. In 2010, the band found a wider audience when Eriksson contributed "Island Song (Come Along With Me)" to the end credits of the hit Cartoon Network show Adventure Time. 

In their now almost 20-year-long career, they have released a series of consistently classic albums, including four LPs on seminal Olympia-based label K Records.

Conspicuously idiosyncratic, the "LAKE sound" has slipped through a handful of genre designations even as it has evolved from early influences, ranging from avant-garde and indie-pop to "experimental pop" and "elevator punk" (an invented genre based on a joke from a friend of the band.)

Their new album, Bucolic Gone, will be out March 7, 2025 on Don Giovanni Records.

Mamalarky’s tenderly tangled indie rock has the internal logic of ridiculous jokes shared between band members after spending weeks on the road together. The sum of friendships and collaborations dating back to their teenage years, the band melds flashy instrumental moves with head-sticking hooks and lovesick lyrics welcoming anyone into their private world. 

While Mamalarky are ostensibly an indie-pop group, they stand out from the laid-back melancholy moods of contemporaries with complex instrumental interplay that inspires lean-forward listening.

Kennedy Mann’s compositions strike you in the heart and linger like a bittersweet memory. Her latest full length, Maybe Tomorrow, arrived in October of last year on Julia’s War Recordings. But her journey as a songwriter began with Philadelphia-based band Highnoon’s first album, Semi Sweet (2019), a project consisting of homespun pop-rock tunes. She and her band went on to open for artists like Leith Ross, Horse Jumper of Love, and Frankie Cosmos. As Kennedy continued to write, she quickly became memorable for her poignant lyricism, tender vocals, and sharp melodic skill on stage and online.

WASTOID– undoubtedly one of the Charlotte hardcore/ DIY scene’s most beloved and recognizable bands. With three Spotify album releases in 2022, including Government Sanctioned Weaponized Fem Boys, Burnt Out Wastoid Gutter Demon, and a live album, LIVESTOID, the band marries hardcore, punk, and experimental elements to create a versatile sound; one that is at times distorted, heavy, and shouted, and at others, ambient and melodic. But while Wastoid’s hardcore sound and energy distinguish the band musically, it’s their heavy and spirited live performances—and the lively and engaged crowds drawn around them—that have won them their beloved status in the local Charlotte DIY/underground scene. A Wastoid show means a crowd that will fill up an entire venue or outside patio, kids flocking in a circling crowd full of elbow bumping, jumping, and letting loose—at some point throughout the set, you’re guaranteed to see kids backflipping through a crowd, rolling on hard concrete in the midst of stomping black shoes on cement pavement, and, of course, crowd surfing.

MSHR

 is an accordionist, multi-instrumentalist and composer based in Los Angeles. His solo compositions focus on processed accordion, creating patient and emotional meditations that nod to drone and ambient music. His debut record, “A Hole in the Fence” was released in 2021 on American Dreams, and utilized a minimal palette of accordions processed through pedals to create glacial soundscapes and odes to hidden worlds. On his latest record, and first for Western Vinyl, “On a Painted Ocean”, he expands his sonic tools to include lush synths, droning pipe organs, and spirited horns, creating a vibrant journey from solitary stillness to community exuberance. The record also follows last year’s “Rain on the Road”, a collaborative album with harpist Mary Lattimore, released on Thrill Jockey.

Prior to releasing music under his own name, McClements had been a touring member of Weyes Blood, Hurray for the Riff Raff, and Dark Dark Dark, as well as leading New Orleans art-punk brass ensemble Why Are We Building Such A Big Ship? and one man band Lonesome Leash.

Upcoming record On a Painted Ocean will be out April 2025 on Western Vinyl.

, grew up in rural Virginia, just east of Patsy Cline’s hometown. A common weary break of the voice, a tug of the lonesome, can be detected in her singing. Richards has been a central member of the U.S. Girls band and most recently was one of many musicians chosen by Meg Remy to help record her acclaimed album Heavy Light (4AD), at Hotel2Tango.

She released her debut record, The Language Shadow in 2020. In February of 2024 Richards released a record with Aidan Coughlan called When We Were Wolves, and has now just released her newest record, New Love Meditation.
