Layne Garrett (guitar) and Nate Scheible (drums). Based in Washington DC, NS and LG have played together in many configurations including the art-rock band DRAWN and various ad hoc ensembles. As a duo, their music is rooted largely in free improvisation, exploring timbre, repetition, intuition, physicality, abstraction. Nate has released music on Outside Time and Warm Winters Ltd; former affiliations include Mock Identity, Scarcity of Tanks, and Self Destruct Button. Layne plays in Weed Tree and other projects, and is program director of the community arts space Rhizome DC. 

 was formed in 2012 in Asheville, NC by guitarist Tashi Dorji and drummer Thom Nguyen. The intensity of their live shows, characterized by Dorji’s angular guitar preparations and Nguyen’s multi-limbed maelstroms exploding outwards in parallel, immediately caught the ear of the sub-underground. Originally from Bhutan, where he absorbed American and UK hard rock and heavy metal via bootleg cassettes while surrounded by a family full of folk musicians, Dorji arrived stateside for college and immersed himself in Asheville’s DIY punk scene and formative listening sessions with records by Albert Ayler, John Coltrane and Derek Bailey. It was there that he met Nguyen, a Vietnamese-Mississippian transplant who had been playing in local free rock outfits Nest Egg and Mendocino. The two hit the ground running, funneling their love of grindcore, black metal, free jazz, noise and other extreme sonics, and burgeoning anarchist/mutual-aid politics into their newfound freedom in improvisation.

Scribblers combine prog rock excess with 1970s power pop ear Candy. Like other Texas luminaries Doug Sahm and Billy Joe Shaver, Aubrey's lyricism combine heart felt sincerity with self reflective humor. Modular synth Wizard Jared Hooker gives the music a sophisticated, harmonic language, creating the perfect backdrop for Andy Burns' incendiary lead guitar. Drummer Joe Exposito and bassist Steve Streit dutifully serve the song providing a firm back bone to these rock 'n' roll gems.

Landon George

Landon George (b. 1995) is a multi-instrumentalist and musical interloper living in Asheville, North Carolina, USA. His music ranges from experimental electronic endeavors to traditional Appalachian ballad singing to intimate original folk songs. An explorer at heart, George may be found drumming in a free improvised unit, playing tuba in an early jazz second line ensemble, or slapping the upright bass in a country blues band.

International appearances by George include a month long tour in China with Yiannese traditional band, Manhu, and festivals in Indonesia and the Netherlands. His current projects include multiple releases on several US labels including COPYRIGHT420, Pink Lady Apple House, and George’s own label, SORSE. In addition to releasing music under his own name, Landon George has released music under the aliases Dosha, Lil’ Nothing Man and The JavaScript Family Band.

 should be an easy tale to tell, right? Kid’s been in the business about 15-16 years now... that’s not much, even if you’re a crazy-busy All-American psycho like our Cory. Easy to run down the deets on that. And he’s been noted by no less than guitar hero John Frusciante as an engrossing, inspired guitarist. Okay, pigeonholed as guitarist. Plus, he’s been in a band steadily for the last twelve years! So...a careerist! Easy peasy. Alas, it’s complicated beyond such simple formulations — for this is a tale of two Corys — at the very least.

Let’s get the roots uncovered quick: Cory’s a California Boy, come up in the 90s and aughts, an art school vet (CalArts, yo), and a musician since back in his youth. It runs in the family. He debuted back in the late aughts under the solo alias White Horses In Technicolor Everywhere. After that, he played a bit with Chad and the Meatbodies and Together Pangea before founding Wand in 2013. He’s written and lead-sung with them, rocking up six LPs with them to date. But here — on the last one, he played keyboards in all the tracks! So… not just a guitarist/singer, then. He does a bit of producing on the side too. And visual art. And of course, the reason you’re reading this right now is not because of no Wand, but rather, Cory Hanson! In addition to his steady-rolling discography with Wand, he’s been putting out solo LPs too since 2016. And those aren’t really like the Wand records at all. They have totally non-rock things like string orchestration and electronics as well as rock things like heavy guitar jams and they may be the best things he’s ever done. It’s not really up to us to say, though. Following 2021’s sophomore Cory album Pale Horse Rider and 2023’s “Cory-III” release, actually called Western Cum, he and Wand got one in — the insane Vertigo — and now Cory’s ready to release his latest solo effort, I Love People.

Cory has toured the country with himself as well as Wand, and made videos and jokes and stirred the pot on social media, which may be some form of modern art (again, not for us to say). In fact, who’s to say that he won’t be writing poetry or comic books in the years to come? It’s hard to see all that he does (false equivalence: the forest) behind his dazzling musical efforts (lame comparison: the trees) but not as hard as it is to see the future. Otherwise, a lot more of us would be billionaires or America’s next top Models, etc. Unfortunately these things take real doing. Fortunately for the (at least) two Corys, the doing of it all just comes natural. As for us, we look forward to seeing and hearing etc what they come up with next.

Colin Miller - If the name Colin Miller sounds familiar, you have probably spent a not-negligible amount of time looking at the credits for other Asheville luminaries like MJ Lenderman (Miller helped engineer and produce last year’s Boat Songs), Wednesday (same for I Was Trying To Describe You To Someone), and Indigo De Souza (2018’s I Love My Mom). Miller also makes music on his own, and he’s racked up a decent amount of material over the past few years, mostly one-offs and shorter home-recorded affairs.

 combines laid-back indie rock with whispery folk, and her incisive, often witty lyrics sometimes make listening to her feel like pricking your finger on a hidden thorn on the stem of a beautiful flower. The five songs on the hilariously titled 2024 EP 

 reveal an artist who’s just as comfortable recounting run-ins with the prying eyes of mediocre men under the fluorescent lights of a big-box retailer as she is confessing her hope for true love and connection. (She recorded the EP with drummer Quin Kirchner and multi-instrumentalist LeRoy Bach, crediting herself as simply “Claire.”) 

The sparse, confessional “This Monthly Affirmation” celebrates avoiding unwanted pregnancy while seeking a romance that will last. “Don’t Ever Let Anyone Tell You to Be Yourself,” awash in dreamy acoustic guitar and shimmering chimes, retells the demise of a relationship. But while the music sounds somber and forlorn, the lyrics put a wry twist on the breakup song—her insistence that her ex was the whole problem, that he failed to be the man she told him to be, suggests that she’s either winkingly indulging her resentment (before, one hopes, self-awareness and accountability take over) or caricaturing a narcissistic jerk. 

Official Claire’s combination of sensitivity and straight talk taps into a familiar Chicago spirit that makes it feel like just about anyone could be an unofficial Claire.

 is a six-piece Atlanta-based indie-alt rock project led by musician/producer Holden Fincher (Marvelous 3), with members Tom Sinclair, Meg Jiles, Trent Bilodeau, Will Villeca, and Ethan Parks. The band formed shortly after the dissolution of Fincher and Bilodeau's longtime project Mansell (2014-2024), which carried them throughout their younger years as they homed in on their skills and cut their teeth playing in the local scene. 

In major, they have continued to expand on their musical foundation into a whole new sound which successfully marries 90s alt-rock influences with Southern gothic elements, resulting in a heavy-hitting, clear, and resolute sound tied together through outstanding songwriting.


After receiving overwhelmingly warm and loving reception in Atlanta and the region since their first live show in August 2024, the band has been building on its successes since releasing its debut EP Leanin; that same year. The band released its follow-up single & 7-Year Itch; in January 2025, and the dual single No Man, No Why / Homepark in June 2025. The band's newest single, CRV, is the lead single from their upcoming debut LP Silver Plastic.

John Aaron Morisi better known by his stage name Johnny Dynamite is an American multi-instrumentalist, producer, and singer-songwriter. Inspired by the illustrative work of his grandfather, Morisi took on the name of one of his most iconic characters, an anti hero detective from the underworld; "Johnny Dynamite".

Morisi blends many different genres and connects the dots between different pockets of subculture; equal parts glossy new wave and anthemic rock n’ roll. Morisi’s signature beat centric production style incorporates big stadium drum samples, dreamy alternate guitar tunings and ethereal retro synth patches. Morisi’s sound has been compared to legacy acts such as Pet Shop Boys, INXS, and The Cure as well as more modern acts such as MGMT and M83.

Formed in late 90s Seattle and currently based in Tulsa, Unwed Sailor craft a unique form of bass-led, instrumental pop with post-rock dynamics. For their eleventh album, High Remembrance, core members Johnathon Ford (bass, keys, guitar), Matt Putman (drums), and David Swatzell (guitar) embrace the bittersweet comforts of memory with shades of alt-rock grit, late 70s AM radio swagger, and rapturous New Wave abandon, among other touchstones that defy easy categorization.

On these songs, Ford finds some of his strongest inspiration by reflecting on where the project began, while perpetually pushing it forward with new ideas, arrangements, and genre infusions. “It’s become about holding onto the things you love the most,” he notes, “including yourself.”

Darkest clouds have sealed the sky - in 2026 Powerplant is back and have brewed their strongest release yet.
